I saw some homing pigeons for sale online and they were born in July 2011. Is that too old to buy them and home them to my loft? I want to be able to let them out but I’m not sure if they are too old.
I meant that by them being too old is that, if I let them out are they going to fly back to there original home? I didn’t know if at one month they would already associate the place that I bought them from as their home. I don’t want them to fly there after I let them out to fly.

I was planning on getting one homing pigeon but I don’t know if they require other pigeons for company or if it is okay to get just one pigeon. Also what size loft should I get for one or two pigeons? I would let them out during some of the day but it wouldn’t be for the whole day because I live in a wooded area and there are hawks around. I would teach them to fly to my house from a distance but not for racing. If you could answer any of my questions it would be greatly appreciated.

So I wan’t to start raising doves. I really like the pure white love doves. What is the real name for those. Also I built a really big loft will they come back if released like Pigeons do? If I buy them as babies how long will i have to keep them in the loft for them to come back?
I might buy a white lab. But i first want to teac him how to not attack or eat the following pets and how can i do that?
-2 adult rabbits
-a 30g fishtank (if it matters)
-a budgie in his cage
-10 pigeons in their loft and also setting them to fly
-hermit crabs in a 5g
The lab will have access to anywhere where these pets will be, so how will i train my dog to not eat these pets?
*And i’ve also heard that dogs are smart, a pigeon will stay far from a dog, but when the pigeon gets used to the dog and goes closer to the dog over time, the dog will pounce on the pigeon when the pigeon is close enough. This happened to my neighbor’s dog and my neighbor’s pigeons 2 doors down. So as a tip if u needed it~ But that dog my neighbor had was a husky

Ok so i moved in with my nanny a few months ago i’m a 14 yr old girl and i have always wanted homing pigeons i think they are the most humane bird to keep due to the fact they get out the whole day =) but i just really want pets that can race occaisionally win or lose so i want to know the requirements for two pigeons and weather they can have a small, decent sized loft. the backyard is rather large with a dog and we have three very mellow cats. so do you think that sounds ok? also how do you propose i go about asking my nanny for pigeons as a christmas present i’m not very good with words also any help for a beginner i’ve helped tons of pigeons that have crashed into windows before but hardly loft pigeons so i’m kind of clueless hehe. thanks =)
